Hepatitis B screening and awareness creation

Mr Kwame Nsia Apau, popularly known as Okyeame Kwame in the showbiz industry once again embarks on his annual Hepatitis ‘B’ screening to help the ordinary Ghanaian who cannot afford the cost as well as others who would want to inspire and contribute to the foundation.

He describes the motive of undertaking this exercise annually as a result of his experience at a hospital when he decided to test for the disease.  He explained that he was surprised by the cost of the test which was GHC 40 as at 2009 and wondered how the ordinary Ghanaian would be able to afford? He has since embarked on free Hepatitis 'B' screening since 2009.

The maiden exercise took place at Kumasi after winning the topmost award at the Ghana Music Awards as the artist of the year. He challenged himself to fulfil his social responsibilities with this initiative.

He seeks to collaborate with stakeholders to impact on policymakers to reduce Hepatitis ‘B’ prevalence rate by 50% by the year 2025 in the country.

This edition is to create awareness about-stigmatization. It will take place on the 28th July 2018 at Aviation Social Centre. The screening exercise will, however, be preceded by a walk from the Accra mall to the venue to create awareness.

The exercise is being organised by the OK Foundation, in collaboration with MDS-Lancet Laboratory.
